Mother and Child Health Program "Health Here and Now"
Duration of the project
Three months, starting March 2007
Funding partner
American Near East Refugee Aid "ANERA – Lebanon"
Description
The project aims at enhancing best practices in mother and child health, building on lessons learned from the emergency mother and child health program conducted during and after the summer 2006 war, as well as improving the quality of services provided within Khiam Medical Center.
The project targets mothers, pregnant women, and children under three years old in the area of Khiam and surrounding villages. This area was selected due to the fact that it was severely impacted by the summer 2006 war.
Beyond providing basic high quality medical services for women and children in the target area, the actions of the project include enhancing the capacity of a work group made of five leading women. Each woman is a permanent resident of a specific village in the neighborhood of Khiam. This work group holds responsibility for creating additional learning and awareness raising tools, conducting awareness sessions in the villages, providing rapid consultancy on mother and child health, and finally organizing a health festival to promote best health practices among the local community in general.
