Child Protection and Social Support for Iraqi Refugees

Funding partner : UNHCR

Starting date: July 2007

For the third year in a row, Amel Association is implementing the “Social Support to Iraqi refugees” project that is funded by the UNHCR and targets refugees in both Amel centers in Chiah and Ain el Remmaneh.

Within a participatory and community based approach the overall objective of the  project, is to contribute to building the capacity and improving the social well-being of Iraqi refugees in both of Amel centers.

This project provides access to non-formal education in order to prevent school dropouts in additional to psychosocial activities such as remedial English classes, computer sessions, and vocational trainings (sewing, handcrafts, hairdressing, mobile phone and computer maintenance …) which are meant to enhance the women and men marketable skills enhancing consequently their social and professional integration. The Centres will also organize many activities throughout the year that were suggested by the refugees themselves such as: courses in chess, sports sessions, drawing sessions, seminars about health , social and cultural evenings,  , as well as trips for children and parents.
